The Summer 2021 Undergraduate Waiver period has now closed. The Waiver period for Fall 2021 will be posted in September 2021.
Student Activities Fee
Stanford students enrolled in degree-granting programs pay the Student Activities Fee each quarter - excluding those on a Flex Quarter and a Leave of Absence.
While COVID-19 has meant the reduction of the fee due to limited programming, the fee supports grant funding for graduate and undergraduate student initiatives. These grants are approved annually by the student body, or quarterly or weekly by the ASSU legislative bodies. The current grad and undergrad fees are fractions of what they would be during a normal year. You can find more information here.
The Student Activities Fee is included in the cost of attendance at Stanford. Therefore, the Financial Aid Office supports your Student Activities Fee in any need-based aid that it provides you.
Each student may opt to waive part or all of the Student Activities Fee, which Stanford University collects on the behalf of the ASSU.
Waiving this fee does not constitute "free money". Waiving a fee means that you choose not to fund certain campus organizations, and do not intend to participate in any of the activities partly or fully supported by those organizations.
Waivers open on the first Monday of each academic quarter and close on the final study list deadline - the third Friday at 5pm. If you are having a problem submitting your waiver, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Typically by Week 5, Student Financial Services will credit waivers to student accounts via Axess. If you do not see a credit to your account by then, please contact the Student Services Center.
If you would like to request a waiver, you should still pay the fee on your University Bill to avoid incurring late charges. Then you may request a waiver before the deadline.
Late or retroactive fee waivers will not be processed. Exceptions will only be issued by the Registrar where students enrolled after the study list deadline and so were assessed the fee after the original waiver deadline.
Access to Waivers Info
Student organization leaders (as listed inCardinalEngage) may request a list of all students who waived their individual contribution to that organization's Annual Grant.
This list will allow the group to determine access to their group's programs and services. This list may not be used for any other purpose or shared outside the officers listed in OrgSync.
