The primary function of the ASSU Legal Counseling Office is to
provide legal advice and consultation to Stanford students and
domestic partners. The service is envisioned as the first step
for any student who thinks that he or she might have a legal problem.
The service is strictly confidential. When possible, the attorneys
advise "preventive law," i.e., they attempt to analyze
the possible consequences of an act before the student engages
in the act. The resources of the Legal Counseling Office are devoted
to the goal of educating the Stanford student body so that students
may be better able to understand the law and to cope with those
legal problems most frequently encountered by students.
